Queen’s-Blyth Worldwide

Queen’s-Blyth Worldwide is introducing an exciting new program of experiential study abroad offered through Queen’s University, commencing in the spring of 2012 with course offerings in 6 different overseas destinations. Queen’s-Blyth Worldwide (www.queensblythworldwide.ca) is a joint initiative between Queen’s University and Blyth Education, a Canadian leader in overseas accredited study options. The Program will enable students from any university to complete Queen’s University undergraduate courses that may be credited towards their degree at their home university.

The Program comprises two 3-week sessions which will run in May and June. In 2012, sessions will be offered in France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Costa Rica, and Australia/New Zealand. The Program offers courses in a wide range of disciplines, including art history, biology, classical studies, cultural studies, environmental science, gender studies, geography, geology, history, various languages, philosophy, physics, politics, and sociology. Courses available at each destination are selected to take advantage of natural, historical, and cultural attractions to enhance student learning and understanding. To optimize the opportunity to experience the rich cultural and natural history of each country, participants will generally move between two to four different localities over the 3-week period.

In each Session, students will take one of several 3.0 credit-unit courses (equivalent to regular semester-length courses) that are fully accredited by Queen’s University. A student may also participate in two back-to-back sessions to earn 6.0 credit-units in total (i.e., the equivalent of a full-year course).

Instructors will take advantage of the chosen locations in delivering their courses, encouraging students to engage with the host country through experiential learning. In addition to formal class time, each course will include academic field-study excursions. Experienced non-academic support staff on site will manage logistics and support the participants, and students will have the opportunity to explore local surroundings further by participating in optional excursions.

Queen’s University is solely responsible for ensuring that the courses meet its rigorous academic standard, and for appointing the Queen’s-Blyth instructors from Queen’s and from other institutions. We invite academically qualified individuals (e.g., faculty and senior doctoral students) at your university to apply to be Queen's-Blyth instructors in 2013. Interested individuals may obtain more information in September 2012.

For more detailed information about the courses please visit www.queensblythworldwide.ca

Queen’s University is excited to offer Queen’s-Blyth Worldwide as a new international program option, in addition to its existing program at the Bader International Study Centre at Herstmonceux Castle in England, and exchange opportunities with partner institutions abroad.
